Mole mapping is a non-invasive way to photograph and follow the moles across your body. We take high-resolution pictures of your skin and add close-up dermoscopy, which looks just beneath the surface of a mole. Put together, these build a detailed baseline of your skin at a single point in time.

At every visit after that, we line the new pictures up against your baseline. New moles stand out, and any change to a mole you already have is easy to see when the images sit next to each other. That beats trying to remember how a spot looked six months ago.

How to get ready

• Come with clean skin, and skip makeup, foundation and nail polish that day
• Leave self-tanner off for about two weeks before your visit
• Take off jewellery and tie long hair back

• Wear underwear you are comfortable being photographed in
• Skip dark socks, and shave areas where hair hides the skin if you can
• Jot down any moles you would like us to pay attention to

What to expect, and how you get results

The whole appointment is quick and private, and nothing touches or breaks the skin. Most visits run about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how many moles we document. Your nurse practitioner goes through the images with you. If anything looks worth checking further, they will explain the next step, which might be a biopsy or a referral.

You do not need a referral to book, and your photos stay private as your personal baseline for next time.
